UID at the SPS 2019: Digital Transformation in Industry

From November 2628, 2019, we will present our services at the SPS in Nuremberg under the motto “Solutions for HMI Excellence". Visitors to our stand 579 in hall 7 will be able to discover in various projects how machine and plant manufacturers master the challenges of the digital transformation and how they prepare their human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for smart and digital productions.

The HMI is the showpiece of a product. Nowhere are the features of an industrial product more visible or tangible than in the HMI. “Despite smart and digital production solutions, HMIs won’t disappear. Quite to the contrary: with the upswing of digitization, connected worlds and customization, the requirements for concept, design and software engineering are increasing, too. In future, HMIs will become increasingly dynamic. They have to display contents anywhere and at any time. Moreover, they should adapt to the context, user and display size given immediately and automatically,” says Franz Koller, UID’s Managing Director. At stand 7-579, visitors to the SPS will be able to experiencecurrent UID projects from the manufacturing industry and automation which demonstrate how the challenges of the digital transformation can be mastered.

Digitized production

Trumpf’s indoor localization system Track & Trace shows how the production process can be digitized successfully. This system is able tolocate orders in the production hall via desktop or mobile applications accurately and in real time, providing transparency on the shop floor: Nothing gets lost and objects can be traced at the touch of a button.

As UX service providers, UID designed and developed a consistent look & feel for all mobile applications such as Trumpf’s Track & Trace. The design uses the product design’s color scheme and core design elements, guaranteeing a perfect match of the digital and real product worlds – the result can be examined at UID’s stand.

Dynamic interfaces

Future HMIs need to be designed so that contents are arranged dynamically. The iNOEX extrusion line serves as an example to show how this requirement can be met in practice. The special challenge in the project: the production of plastic pipes is monitored via the HMI, which visualizes a number of different live data sets and needs to run on different devices.

In order to reduce the complexity, our partners Smart HMI together with our own project team decided to use a modular system that flexibly adapts to different contexts and screen sizes.
