UID at the SPS IPC DRIVES: Smart services and HMI 4.0 for manufacturing

"Solutions for HMI Excellence" is our motto for this year's SPS IPC Drives, which takes place in Nuremberg on November 28 to 30, 2017. In hall 7, booth 579, we will present several projects to demonstrate how machine and plant manufacturers develop connected service portfolios and get ready for Industry 4.0.

The connected world of Industry 4.0 requires companies to do more than offering just a product. Big data and the Internet of Things open up new digital potentials for machine and plant manufacturers. They can add new data-based services to their range of offerings to stand out from the competition and offer added value for their customers. At the SPS IPC DRIVES, booth 7-579, we will use the web-based platform GRIPS.world to demonstrate how products are turned into connected service ecosystems.

We have designed and developed a user interface for the German plant manufacturer Gerhard Schubert, which will be used to retrieve information on machine maintenance, control and performance. These data will enable the user to preemptively detect problems with the packing machines.

Industry 4.0 experience

Another interactive showcase at the trade fair will demonstrate the potentials of Industry 4.0. A robot that automates the asparagus harvest is at the core of the exhibit. Users can control the robot using various end devices, retrieve performance data from several connected products and access external services. A special service use of the Industry 4.0 application is the predictive ordering of spare parts.

Consistent interface

From shorter familiarization periods to reduced training costs or fewer mistakes – a consistent cross-platform user interface has clear benefits. And of course, Bosch Packaging Technology didn't want to do without them. In a joint project, we developed a modular system for all packaging machines produced by Bosch Packaging. This makes it possible to compile an individual set of controls for any machine while keeping a consistent look & feel. Visitors to UID's stand will have the opportunity to try out the new control generation HMI4.0.

Creating the smart service portfolio 4.0

As market leaders for user experience design, UID designs and develops user-friendly software and apps for machine and plant manufacturers and for providers of automation technology. From individual user interfaces to entire product series or bespoke services - UID is by your side from the idea all the way to the implementation.
