On the track of user experience

Authors: Hassenzahl, M., Burmester, M. & Koller, F. (2008)

Emotions that users feel while handling a product - such as joy or enthusiasm - influence the attractiveness that they attribute to it. UID has teamed up with academic partners to develop AttrakDiff, a measuring tool that captures this personal user experience. The publication explains what user experience is and which opportunities the web tool Attrakdiff offers.

What is AttrakDiff?

AttrakDiff facilitates the anonymous evaluation of a chosen product by customers, users, etc. The evaluation data enables us to gauge how the attractiveness of the product is experienced, in terms of usability and appearance and whether optimization is necessary. AttrakDiff can be used for all interactive products – from enterprise software to consumer products, machine controls, websites or medical devices. The online questionnaire is available in German and English.

How does AttrakDiff rate attractiveness?

AttrakDiff evaluations distinguish between pragmatic and hedonic quality. Pragmatic factors are, for example, usefulness and usability. Hedonic factors include emotional needs, such as curiosity and identification. The resulting attractiveness is based on the combination of pragmatic and hedonic factors.
