User Experience which will be remembered – femory and UID make online archiving an experience
Femory was an online media tool for archiving, editing and sharing photos, videos and other media. To combine the experiences from users' lives with an intuitive user experience, the company founders recruited the experts from User Interface Design GmbH (UID). Within a very short time, femory and UID developed an attractive and user-friendly interaction concept and screen design.

The background
The start-up company femory was a portal which combines the web elements of a social community and an internet archive, focussing on the experience quality: no matter if it is wedding pictures, vacation videos or an audio replay of a recent party – registered members were able to collect, store, and layout their digital memories with multimedia technology. Albums or slide shows could be quickly and simply generated from photo, video or audio material and be shared with friends and family.
The starting point
Based on the target group definition, femory determined personas and use scenarios and created first scribbles for the archive. The concept and the design did however not meet the intended experience quality.
The objectives
femory aimed at developing a user interface that is easy and efficient to use and that arouses enjoyment and enthusiasm. For the development of a user-friendly and appealing interaction concept and screen design, femory relied on the support of User Interface Design GmbH (UID). The special challenge here was to realize the project within a very short time.
The procedure
The UID designers analyzed the existing sketches of femory to derive improvement ideas. On this basis and in close cooperation with femory, the UID team developed a new concept and made it perceptible by means of wireframes and screen designs. Within a subsequent usability test, the basic concept was tested on usability and user experience among representative users. They had to carry out typical use scenarios such as registering, uploading pictures, creating photo albums and inviting friends. Based on the results gained, the UID experts optimized the existing concept.
The result
The portal femory impressed users with a consistent and logical interaction concept which translates the complexity of the application into a easy-to-use user interface. The visual design and purposefully placed animations awoke curiosity and inspire the users without trying to get too much attention or limiting the freedom of action of the users. The black color scheme emphasized the uniqueness and high quality of the portal and allowed optimal presentation of the stored media. femory received the award of the German Multimedia Congress for being the best start-up company.
In february 2012 femory was replaced by the iPhone- and iPad-App clixxie-fotobuch.Project reference from 2010
