Canoo Engineering AG offers tailor-made Java solutions for business applications and software development tools. Canoo's Music Pinboard is a demo application that compiles information on musical artists from various internet services.
The aim of this demo application is to illustrate the possibilities offered by Sun Microsystem's innovative JavaFX technology. It allows users to integrate various media like texts, photographs and videos. Moreover, JavaFX makes it easier to migrate designs into the development environment.The starting point
At the start of our joint project, Canoo had already implemented the basic idea of the Music Pinboard. However, the usability of the first drafts needed improvement. The design, too, was not up to Canoo's expectations and did not fully account for the company's corporate design.
The objectives
While the demo application's concept had already been implemented, its design had room for improvement. The goal of UID's designers was to optimize the application's look-and-feel and its design while adapting it to Canoo's corporate design.
The procedure
UID's user experience experts first analyzed the existing demo application. Building on these results, they optimized the interaction concept. As a next step, UID's designers brushed up the user interface and redesigned the application logo. Finally, Canoo implemented the new design using Sun Microsystem's advanced JavaFX software. During the project, Canoo and UID successfully met these special challenges: Given the narrow time frame allocated for the redesign, no personal meetings were possible and all communication took place via telephone and e-mail.
The result
Canoo Music Pinboard is now a modern web service with an attractive design. Its clear coloring and design are based on Canoo's corporate design, thus enhancing the product's brand recognition. The improved operational concept allows for easy and intuitive navigation. Thanks to the advanced JavaFX technology, the web service outshines its competitors.
