Well insured: HUK24 offers its users usability and attractiveness

The background

The online insurance company HUK24 is an affiliated company of the insurance group HUK-COBURG. For HUK24, the Internet is the only channel of distribution. At www.huk24.de, interested users can get information and calculate quotes for different products. Existing customers can manage their contracts via the website.

The starting point

The new website should be designed to serve as a distribution portal and service portal at the same time. For HUK24, it is clear: Usability is the decisive key to success. To optimally adjust the website to the needs of potential and existing customers, HUK24 opted for a usability optimization and a redesign. The message is simple: make it more individual and more dynamic.

The objectives

  • A start page offering information for existing and potential customers
  • A logical and consistent navigation structure to ensure optimal orientation
  • A dynamic quotation process to optimally support the user in task execution
  • Direct access to functions, e.g. changing contract data or the log-in to access personal data
  • An appealing graphical design that motivates the user

The procedure

In the first stage, the existing website was analyzed in an expert review. The UID usability experts tested important use scenarios, such as "Calculate a quote", "Change vehicle" or "Change personal data" to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the website. Based on the results, HUK24 and UID developed the new interaction concept and screen design in two design workshops. But would the users accept the new design? This question was answered in a usability test. Finally, the UID team prepared a detailed, realizable concept full of ideas.

The result

Launched in August 2009, the new HUK24 website focuses on functionality and clarity. The modern and attractive design limits information to the basics. The improved navigation structure allows existing and potential customers to quickly find all relevant information and keep track of all things. The new dynamic and flexible quotation form has been adjusted to meet the individual requirements of the users.
"HUK24 always focused on the needs of the users. The user is now guided through the process step by step to quickly and easily ask for an individual quote. If necessary, the user will also find tips and recommendations as well as direct help", says Sylvia Le Hong, project manager at UID.
