Optimal usability and safety in the operating room
The Sorin Group Deutschland headquartered in Munich is the world market leader for heart-lung machines (HLM). Half of the 750 to 800 devices sold worldwide every year is produced in Munich.
For the new development of the HLM S5, the Sorin Group relied on the knowhow of UID as a leading usability company. The challenge was to replace the existing operating panels based on LCD displays by touch panels, i.e. graphical user interfaces. In collaboration with Sorin, the team of User Interface Design GmbH (UID) developed the necessary graphical resources as well as the structure of the operating logic.
"Compared to its predecessors, the new heart-lung machine is a considerable improvement in terms of technology and quality“, confirms Prof. Wahlers of the Jena clinical center. The advantages of the machine are obvious: by means of a more compact design as well as a more precise monitoring, the safety for the patient is considerably increased. And above all, the operation of the high-tech medical device could be simplfied significantly.
The ‚Stöckert S 5’ sets a new benchmark by offering an optimized and much easier programmability, intuitive and convenient operation as well as an innovative and attractive design. The iF International Forum Design GmbH agrees: the S5 was awarded the iF Product Design Award within their renowned industrial design competition.
