A new era of watching TV with aonDigital TV

With aonDigital TV, Telekom Austria launches the digital TV entertainment that comes from the telephone socket. Since aonDigital TV offers more than traditional digital TV, allowing individual programs for every taste. In addition to TV channels, the new service offers various contents on demand, the so-called "video on demand". A convenient electronic program guide (EPG) replaces the paper TV guide and provides support for the extensive variety of programs. A miniature EPG is the zapper, which displays all relevant information on the current programm and on the programm on other channels in brief to the user. The helpful services provide information such as the weather forecast, the traffic situation on the ring road in Vienna or the horoscope. Convenience is the major focus: All functions can be easily accessed via remote control.

The challenge for the UID experts was to design this new TV experience for the whole family. The result was an easy-to-use and attractive interface, since the user was always in the center of the design process. In the development phase, the product was put to test several times. These user evaluations helped to provide clear structures allowing intuitive operation. The user can easily find his way trough the interface relying on a consistent arrangement of the various elements. The use of colors also plays an important role. Users are comfortable with the dark background colors and gradients, which do not distract from the content. The selected elements are highlighted in a strong green, which is not only the primary color of Telekom Austria, but also a fresh and friendly color which helps the user to optimally find his way. The combination of color, shape and structure gives aonDigital TV an appropriate appearance combined with best usability.

An award-winning result: aonDigital TV wins the iF communication design award 2006 in the category "digital media: screen design" and was nominated for the DMMA in the category interactive TV.
