The prototype of the Care-O-bot® 3 is a mobile home robot developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA). The prototype is equipped with the latest software and hardware as well as state-of-the-art sensor and control technologies, and offers modern interaction options to the user. Care-O-bot® 3 can be used, amongst others, in nursing homes, where it can support nursing staff in their daily work. The article describes the robot's development and design and how it is controlled, and it shows how it can be used in geriatric care.
