"Hello": UID inaugurated office at Dortmund

User Interface Design GmbH (UID) has opened its fourth office at Dortmund. Employees and guests from the area around Dortmund came to see the new premises and learn more about trends such as Mobile Banking and Unified User Experience. The UID designer Sebastian Schulz also said "Hello" – this was the title of his extraordinary street art exhibition at the UID office.

What was started some time ago as the project "UID North", has now found its home in downtown Dortmund, on new and attractive premises of 300 square meters, where UID opened a new office. Numerous guests came to get an idea of the modern ambiance and listened to interesting lectures on user experience trends.

In the focus: Trends in the field of User Experience

How a company creates a distinctive unified user experience across all media was shown by Prof. Dr. Frank Heidmann of the University of Applied Sciences of Potsdam. The specialist for Interaction Patterns explained to the audience by means of a concrete example how established interaction patterns shape the corporate identity of a company.
Alexander von Benten of ENTITEC introduced a leading open source project to the guests, in which ENTITEC, Sun Microsystems, UID and Verwaltungs-Berufsgenossenschaft (VBG) used synergies and embedded usability.
In his lecture on "The mobile bank", Jakob Biesterfeldt, Manager User Research at UID, presented a current survey of the network of International Usability Partners (IUP). Apart from cultural differences in mobile transactions, the survey analyzes how users worldwide imagine mobile banking to be: simple, secure and cost-saving. Here, the expectations of the users differ a lot from reality.

"Hello": diversified street art

A successful user experience with culinary and optical highlights awaited the visitors after the lectures, when they explored the colorful and lively exhibition of the street art artist Sebastian Schulz. Under the title "Hello", the UID designer set a refreshing counterpoint. Combing the traditional graffiti style with unusual effects, he creates interesting, emotive and bright pictures.

UID celebrates its 10th anniversary in Ludwigsburg

"We had a great housewarming party and everybody had fun", says Dr. Ronald Hartwig, Head of the Dortmund office. "Now life goes on. We got a lot of work to do. We already have lots of customers in this area, and new customers are joining. As regards our number of employees, we also intend to increase our personnel."
The inauguration of the Dortmund office was the fourth event of the anniversary program of UID. For ten years, UID has consulted and supported companies in designing user-friendly products. The culmination of the anniversary year 2009 will be on 21 November: Employees, partners and customers look forward to an entertaining evening with excellent artists at the music hall of Ludwigsburg, including the a cappella group "füenf" from Stuttgart, who always plays to full houses.
