Internet World Congress & Trade Fair: UID actively contributes to the topic of usability
User Interface Design GmbH (UID) will present itself again this year on the Internet World Congress & Trade Fair on October 23 and 24, 2007 in Munich. Andreas Selter, Manager Web Solutions, will introduce modern interaction design solutions from a usability perspective in his workshop. As an exhibitor, UID will inform about usability for websites, online shops, and intranets.
"Usability solutions for innovative interaction design" will be in the focus of a workshop on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, from 11 am to 12.30 am. Andreas Selter, Manager Web lutions, will describe the latest opportunities of interaction design with web 2.0 technologies such as Ajax, showing how solutions are applied in order to offer users a real added value as regards usability and attractiveness.
Optimal design of charity websites
By means of a project with the charity organization SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit, UID will show how to build confidence on the Internet. The website www.sos-kinderdoerfer.de is supposed to attract people who are willing to make a donation for children in need and to inform about the current activities of the organization. For this purpose, the organization revised its website. As a first step, UID experts conducted a usability test of the current website, which revealed obstacles in use, usability weaknesses and room for improvement. The UID experts identified which requirements potential and existing donators have of charity websites. Finding the optimal balance between emotional address and objective information was also in the focus. The significant results gained in the first usability tests help SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit to redesign its website according to the needs of its users. UID will introduce this project in a multimedia presentation.
Statistic data acquisition by means of quantitative remote usability testing
For the Internet World, UID expanded its range of services by two new remote usability testing methods. In a remote usability test, test respondents and test observers are able to participate in a test at any place, which allows flexible and cost-efficient testing. Besides qualitative testing, UID offers a special novelty with a quantitative approach, i.e. tests with statistically relevant samples, which is required when individual perceptions and opinions are to be tested in addition to usability. UID offers this new service in cooperation with the German market research company Gesellschaft für Konsum-, Markt- und Absatzforschung (GfK). Using the GfK online panel allows to exactly identify and find the target groups for a test and reduces the actual data acquisition to just a few days.
International usability for global markets
Another focus of the UID exhibition at booth 89 will lie on two research projects of the International Usability Partners (IUP). This network of independent usability companies is active in more than 20 countries worldwide. The members prepared guidelines for the international recruiting of test respondents. In another international project, the network examined how users use web 2.0 websites. Jakob Biesterfeldt, Usability Engineer, will inform visitors of the Internet World Trade Fair on these projects.
