Guidelines for Successful Recruitment in International Usability Studies
Gillham, R., Biesterfeld, J., Thalmeier, S., Fuchs, F., Shang, T. & Sabena, E. (2007)
In: UPA Conference 2007
Good recruitment of participants is crucial to the success of any usability testing project. In international studies, the risk of recruiting the wrong participants is far greater than usual. In this paper, we offer guidelines for recruitment based on our own extensive experience of performing crosscountry usability studies.

Usability of Technical Documentation
Biesterfeldt, J. & Lewark, E.-M.
In: technische kommunikation, 3/06
Jakob Biesterfeldt (UID) and Eva-Maria Lewark (FIDUCIA) describe a joint project on usability of technical documentation in the German technical magazine 'technische kommunikation'. The technical documentation department at FIDUCIA used usability test results and expert reviews to optimally adjust the online support of their banking software to the information needs of their users.

User Centred Design for a Digital Welding Machine
Burmester, M.; Beu, A.; Hackl, H.; Niedereder, F.; (2002)
In: Behaviour & Information Technology Vol. 21, No. 5 (page 321 – 326). London, Taylor & Francis
The design of the user interface of a digital welding machine based on a user centred design process is described in this paper. Due to the iterative design process and the involvement of end users, interaction techniques have been designed which are optimised for the mental work model of the target user groups.

Focus Usability: Engineering Joy (Englisch)
Hassenzahl, M.; Beu, A.; Burmester, M.
In: IEEE Software 01/01
"Joy of Use" is a buzzword in the field of user interface design. Serious attempts have been made to find out more, however a specific explanation is yet to be found. Our authors recommend systematic methods by which a determining factor, hedonic quality, as well as the interplay between usability and usefulness are considered. This is a step toward actual implementation of the user experience.
