Accessibility

Accessibility means non-restrictive usability of content and functions (e.g. a website facilitating all users regardless of their sensory, mental or even technical capacities). For this reason accessible websites support not only the disabled or the elderly, but all users. Disabled groups, e.g. the visually handicapped, benefit radically because they depend heavily on the internet and other modern information technologies to ease their everyday lives.

A new law was introduced in Germany in July 2002. The BITV (Barrierefreie Informationstechnik-Verordnung) stipulates that all web facilities meet accessibility standards. Accessibility is not just legislation, but an ethical and commercial principle.

UID accessibility consulting:

  • We offer expert evaluations and recommendations on accessibility in compliance with standard guidelines (BITV, among others)
  • Usability tests, e.g. visually handicapped users testing the accessibility of your web facilities. The outcome of tests enable us to make reliable design recommendations.
