Embedded Systems

The use of IT-based technology for products with graphic-based user interfaces is no longer limited to the traditional PC, workstations and host environments. The use of so-called "embedded systems" is widely used in the consumer industry, telecommunication, the car industry, medical technology and industry in general.

What most products have in common are restricted display possibilities and fewer interactive possibilities (due to the relatively small processor capacity compared to the PC). Nevertheless most of these products have a great many functions available.

Digital TV

Diversity of channels, improved sound and picture quality and access to electronic programme guides (EPG) are all advantages of digital TV. The greatest advantages though, are the enhanced services available. Betting in sport events, solving criminal cases alongside the Tatort team (a popular German TV series), participation in quiz shows, obtaining background information. All of this via the TV screen. These are just some of the possibilities of enhanced television.

UID has many years of experience in bringing about enhanced digital TV. Our involvement with ARD broadcasting gave rise to the first interactive Tatort series as well as to numerous other enhanced TV services.

Mobile Devices

Mobile technology is no longer limited to mobile telecommunication. It is used in industry, logistics and in the medical and transport fields. Information is made accessible regardless of the location of operation. Machines can be monitored and operated from different locations. Mobile devices facilitate a qualitative gain in the production and manufacturing industries.

Embedded System Services

UID uses Java and C# based technologies to install embedded systems. These supported domains range from MHP for digital TV to mobile phones (e.g. The Symbian OS) and Windows CE and XP embedded.
